TikTok Notes starts rolling out as a new rival to Instagram
TikTok is now introducing its Instagram competitor, TikTok Notes, to specific Android and iOS users in Australia and Canada. This rollout allows users to download the app and participate in limited testing. The announcement was made through a tweet, and the app is also listed on the App Store and Google Play, complete with official images showcasing its features for those who haven't accessed it yet.
The app's interface is divided into two main sections: one for posts from followed accounts and another for a For You page. The layout resembles Pinterest's homepage, but with a more condensed two-column grid. Although it's unclear how posts are selected for highlighting, it's likely they come from accounts similar to those the user already follows, based on TikTok's algorithm.
Despite these minor adjustments, TikTok Notes bears a strong resemblance to Instagram, which is a departure from the company's usual strategy. Historically, Meta (formerly Facebook) has been known for emulating features from other platforms, such as TikTok's Reels and Snapchat's Stories. However, with TikTok Notes, TikTok seems to be turning the tables and emulating features from Instagram.
